| Welcome to the new Police and Fire Chaplains Training Academy website. We owe a special debt of gratitude to Hemisphere Design for this communication tool.
We invite you to navigate around and try out the interactive features that will allow online registration, enable you to quickly address your comments and questions to us, and in this space, read up to date announcements and news from our Academy Alums!
I am excited to be back directing the Academy after leaving for retirement some six years ago. In those intervening six years, Art Sphar, ably assisted by Colleen Regan our Registrar, “right hand lady extraordinaire”, has continually refined the Academy and given each one of our nearly 300 graduates an academically sound, and very practical basic foundation to be police or fire chaplains.
On our website you will see a number of links. Each of these links is not only an important element of who we are, but represents foundational elements of the Academy. Up front and foremost is our link with our parent ministry, Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy whose long standing leadership among emergency services chaplaincy organizations, may be best known for its emphasis on education.
You see our links with the International Conference of Police Chaplains and the Federation of Fire Chaplains, each of which has granted permission that we provide training that meets their requirements for our graduates to receive their Basic Credential.
We are also grateful and pleased to partner with the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission in their willingness to house our Academy. The academic background it provides is a decided and unique strength PFCTA offers those who come to train with us.
The Washington Association of Sheriff’s and Police Chiefs and the Washington Fire Chiefs are professional organizations that recognize the importance of well trained chaplains to serve their members. We are grateful for their endorsements.
We are busily preparing for Academy 10.1, and we invite you to come back to this site often for updates on the coming Academy sessions and breaking news from our Alumni.
